Lobby Congress For Tibet

Image:triangle

While President Obama celebrates China’s $45 Billion trade deal with the United States, announced during Hu Jintao’s Washington DC visit in January, Hillary Clinton was being applauded by her State Department colleagues for a press conference, in which she trampled over the facts, and Tibet’s just cause for freedom, by describing Tibetans as a Chinese minority. Not that such a distortion or betrayal would concern Obama, who again appeased China by endorsing its bogus claim of legitimacy over Tibet, while offering platitudes on unspecified human rights matters. The appalling indifference towards the Tibetan struggle for national freedom is formalized by a duplicitous, and failed,  ’engagement with China strategy’ (a fig leaf barely concealing the prime interests of trade and political priorities). This deception is justified by arguing that constructive relations with Beijing will bring moderation and progress, decades after this cynical smokescreen was trumpeted by the State Department, the atrocities, censorship, torture, forced-labor and vicious abuses caused by China’s population control program, continue undiminished.  Not that you would think so, given the troubling attendence of Kenneth Roth, the executive director of Human Rights Watch, who attended a White House banquet in honor of China’s bloody tyrant, Hu Jintao.

Despite the cynical efforts of the State Department, to bury Tibet as an international issue and consign its people to a dangerous future as a ‘minority’ under China’s bloody maw, Tibetans continue to struggle for their nation’s freedom. We can support their sacrifices and objective by calling upon the Administration and Congress to recognize the political aspirations of the Tibetan people. Help us to ensure that the Tibetan people’s demand for an independent Tibet is heard by your Senator, Secretary-of-State, Hillary Clinton and President Obama.

Action

1) Please email your Senator and request them to present the following, as a written question, to Secretary-of-State. Hillary Clinton:

Will the Secretary-of-State acknowledge that Tibetans inside Tibet, in their ongoing resistance to Chinese occupation, are demanding independence for Tibet?

Ask your Senator to provide you with a copy of their correspondence, and any reply from the Secretary-of-State.

2)  Give your Senator the facts by adding this link to your email
http://tibettruth.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/indeptibet_200903_print3.pdf

Inform them that the pamphlet on independent Tibet provides  clear evidence of Tibet’s former independence

Email/contact details of your Senator may be easily found here: http://www.contactingthecongress.org/
