Welcome to US Military 'Justice' Camp X-Ray Style

The embarrassment that is Guantanamo prison casts a shameful stain upon the United States’ claim to uphold justice, freedom and democratic values. As the Obama Administration continues to prevaricate with hand-wringing platitudes about respecting human rights, while refusing calls for an official inquiry into the abuses at the notorious detention center, untold numbers of innocent people remain under the tender mercies of US military imprisonment. The cracks are however begining to widen as the US finds it increasingly difficult to justify detention without access to a fair and genuinely independent judicial trial or review.
To minimize the humiliation of what has to be one of the most appalling cases of injustice, the Administration has initiated a managed release program in which numbers of ‘detainees’ (what a nice neutral term engineered by the Pentagon) will be despatched to what it considers ‘safe’ countries.
Now for the geography question, hands-up, who can point-out the location of Palau on the atlas? Tough one huh? Well one body that knows for sure is the US State Department, which has targetted this remote Pacific Island as being the perfect location for some seventeen Moslem-Uyghurs, who its friends at the Pentagon have been illegally holding at Guantanamo. By pure coincidence the United States is completing a $US200 million aid-package for Palau (formerly under US administration until 1994). However State Department spokesman, Ian Kelly, denied any link with the transfer of the Uyghurs.

Paradise Exile for Uyghurs

Well a paradise island in the azure blue waters of the Pacific Ocean is sure better than being handed-over to communist China, which is angered at the decision, (Beijing claims East Turkestan, the Central Asian territory of the Uyghur people, as being part of China. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/824587/china-angered-as-uighurs-get-new-home
However naturally relieved exiled Uyghurs may be at the news, in a more fair and just world the US Administration, having grossly abused the legal and human rights of those held at Guantanamo, should have considered itself morally and ethically obligated to compensate those innocent of any criminal or terrorist actions, by at the very least offering refuge in the United States. Sadly President Obama does not appear to have any sense of ethical responsibility concerning the plight of such people and would seemingly prefer to remove them to distant locations, in the hope that a blanket of amnesia will descend upon what has been a very troubling episode in US history.

No Justice or Reparation for Illegal Detention of Uyghurs
