Urumchi Massacre Receives Hypocritical White House Concern

Latest reports now claim that over 150 people have been killed during the bloody crackdown by communist Chinese security forces during what was a peaceful demonstration in Urumchi. The overwhelming majority of deaths would have been Uyghurs, who faced troop carriers, hundreds of body-armoured securty forces and machines guns, as revleaded by the disturbing footage from events in Lhasa during April 2008, China’s response to any form of mass protest, no matter how ordered, is to use excessive and brute violence.

Meanwhile in a gesture of staggering hypocrisy the US White House claims it’s deeply concerned by reports of dozens of deaths and injuries. In a statement issued from Moscow, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the White House urges everyone in East Turkestan (re-named Xinjiang by communist China)  to exercise restraint. It will be recalled that the United Sates in 2002 allowed Chinese security officers to abuse and forcibly interrogate innocent Uyghurs being held illegally in Guantanamo Prison, while the current President chose not oppose the forcible relocation of Uyghurs to a remote island in the Pacific, following their release from Camp X-Ray, having been found completely innocent of any crimes by a US Judge.

Pentagon Complicit in Chinese Abuse of Innocent Uyghurs

Reports of the United Sates collaborating with communist Chinese security forces, to abuse Moslem-Uyghurs who were being illegally imprisoned at Guantanamo, have been circulating for some time, now it would appear that in 2002 the US Administration gave virtually unrestricted access to a team of Chinese officials, who abused a number of Uyghurs, with the reported encouragement and support of American military personnel. At a time when international legal and human rights organisations were being denied access to the notorious prison, the Pentagon was laying out the red-carpet to communist China.

Details of yet another shameful violation of human and civil rights at Camp X-Ray, which were seemingly condoned and tolerated by the United States, have emerged from the testimony of recently released Uyghurs who documented their harrowing experiences.

The men state that they were subject to a range of abuse by Chinese interregators for several days, including detention in a cold-room, physical intimidation, sleep and food deprevation, A legal representative for one of the Uyghurs, Elizabeth Gilson, was deeply concerned by the degree of cooperation and involvement from US prison guards:

“We know that it’s true,” she said. “It’s one of the most shameful parts of this shameful episode. Not only did they allow the Chinese delegation to intimidate and scare these men to death, our American soldiers were told to soften them up for the interrogation.”

Guantanamo Uyghurs Banished to Treasure Island

Welcome to US Military 'Justice' Camp X-Ray Style

Welcome to US Military 'Justice' Camp X-Ray Style

The embarrassment that is Guantanamo prison casts a shameful stain upon the United States’ claim to uphold justice, freedom and democratic values. As the Obama Administration continues to prevaricate  with hand-wringing platitudes about respecting human rights, while refusing calls for an official inquiry into the abuses at the notorious detention center, untold numbers of innocent people remain under the tender mercies of US military imprisonment. The cracks are however begining to widen as the US finds it increasingly difficult to justify detention without access to a fair and genuinely independent judicial trial or review.

To minimize the humiliation of  what has to be one of the most appalling cases of injustice, the Administration has initiated a managed release program in which numbers of ‘detainees’ (what a nice neutral term engineered by the Pentagon) will be despatched to what it considers ‘safe’ countries.

Now for the geography question, hands-up,  who can point-out the location of Palau on the atlas? Tough one huh? Well one body that knows for sure is the US State Department, which has targetted this remote Pacific Island as being the perfect location for some seventeen Moslem-Uyghurs, who its friends at the Pentagon have been illegally holding at Guantanamo.  By pure coincidence the United States  is completing a $US200 million aid-package for Palau (formerly under US administration until 1994). However State Department spokesman, Ian Kelly,  denied any link with the transfer of the Uyghurs.

Paradise Exile for Uyghurs

Paradise Exile for Uyghurs

Well a paradise island in the azure blue waters of the Pacific Ocean is sure better than being handed-over to communist China, which is angered at the decision, (Beijing claims East Turkestan, the Central Asian territory of the Uyghur people, as being part of China. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/824587/china-angered-as-uighurs-get-new-home

However naturally relieved exiled Uyghurs may be at the news, in a more fair and just world the US Administration, having grossly abused the legal and human rights of those held at Guantanamo, should have considered itself morally and ethically obligated to compensate those innocent of any criminal or terrorist actions, by at the very least offering refuge in the United States.  Sadly President Obama does not appear to have any sense of ethical responsibility concerning the plight of such people and would seemingly prefer to remove them to distant locations, in the hope that a blanket of amnesia will descend upon what has been a very troubling episode in US history.

No Justice or Reparation for Illegal Detention of Uyghurs
