This is our opportunity to display our collective strength in solidarity with our sisters and brother in Tibet. We will inform the governments and elected representatives and ask them to press China for assurances that no reprisals will be made against pupils, parents or teachers, and to address the rumors that seem to be circulating in Amdo and make a commitment that they will not withdraw Tibetan from the education system in any Tibetan areas.
Since October 19, 2010, tens of thousands of students in Tibet have carried out a peaceful procession protesting the Chinese governments’ forced policy to replace Tibetan with Chinese language as the medium of instruction. These protests have now spread to Beijing, where students at a minority university staged a rare public demonstration. The use of Tibetan is being systematically wiped out as part of China’s strategy to cement the stability of its governance over the occupied Tibet as a part of grant model of ethnic integration and assimilation into the mainstream Han-Chinese community.Tibetans have been arrested and even shot for less than what these students are currently doing. Remember, these are the very intrepid generation that were born and grew up under Communist China’s occupation, which further goes to show the dissatisfaction of China’s occupation of Tibet. We look forward to seeing you there.
