October 29-Day 19 and the final one for the Walk for Tibet’s independence. The final stage saw Jigme, Kunchok and Tai complete around 27 miles from Missisauga to Toronto, where a rally was held outside the Chinese Consulate . The walkers reported it was the coldest day of their trek, only kept at bay by a determination to complete what had been a tremendous achievement in terms of raising awareness and media attention to Tibet’s rightful cause of national freedom. Raising the Tibetan flag proudly high, Jigme, Kunchok and Tai passed through downtown Toronto inviting the interest and curiosity of passers-by, as they approached the city’s Chinatown district they were given a police escort, all the way to the Chinese Consulate, where a large crowd of Tibetans had gathered to welcome the freedom walkers. The Tibetan National Anthem was first sung and Jigme Norbu presented a message that the Tibetan people shall never give up their struggle until Tibet is once again a free and independent nation. Doren, a representative of the First Nation’s from Delaware, explained the history of Native Americans, as related to Tibet’s cause. The evening closed with a meeting at a nearby hall, at which Jigme gave a talk on the walk to local Tibetans and assured them he will continue his actions for Tibet, while fellow walker Kunchok Gonpo reminded the audience all Tibetans must be united behind Tibet’s struggle for independence.
