Who’s Funding The Parliamentary Gravy Train to Dharamsala?

A couple of years back we wrote a post questioning if the exiled Tibetan Administration was funding trips of overseas Parliamentarians to its Dharamsala base in India. In particular we highlighted the case of English MP Mr Norman Baker, around whom at that time there was some controversy regarding expenses.  He had visited India in October 2007 and September 2008, on trips reportedly sponsored by the Tibetan Administration (and the Tibet Society of UK, of which he was then President). The Parliamentarian found himself in hot water for alleged breaches of Parliamentary protocols that govern expenses and overseas trips. According to the British Parliamentary rules, any MP who undertakes an overseas trip, sponsored by a foreign government (Editor’s Note does this mean that this Parliament considers the exiled Tibetan Government as a legitimate and operating political administration?) is required to register it within four weeks. In addition they must declare a financial interest if it “might reasonably be thought by others to influence the speech, representation or communication in question”.

It would appear he weathered that particular storm, so much so that  over the past few days Mr Baker has again been in Dharamsala, acting we understand in the capacity of observer overseeing voting for the head of the Tibetan Administration.

It’s not clear if he funded his trip or if his expenses were covered by the Tibetan Administration, International Network of Parliamentarians, or the International Campaign For Tibet. Our previous post on this issue raised concerns at the idea of the Administration bankrolling politicians trips to India. Not only would that be a profligate use of funds, with a questionable return in terms of political advancement for the Tibetan cause, but an extravagance subsidized directly or indirectly by Tibetans. Who face all manner of economic and social deficiencies.

Image:farm2

There were many troubling questions. How many politicians have had their flights and accommodation subsidized? What amounts of money has been spent on such trips?  Were details placed before the exiled Tibetan Assembly? Tibetans scratching a precarious living across India have every right to know if their exiled Administration is wasting precious resources on funding affluent Parliamentarians. When there is so much need within the exiled Tibetan community. Others may well be wondering if foreign politicians, who express support for Tibet, have not reached into their own cash-lined pockets to fund trips to Dharamsala?

Prominent Advocate For Freedom Targeted By Chinese Regime’s Trolls

Human Rights Advocate Ms Xue Sheng Targeted With Lies And Baseless Allegations From China's Regime.
Human Rights Advocate Xue Sheng Targeted With Lies And Baseless Allegations From China’s Regime.

It’s in Victor Hugo’s ‘Villemain’ that the following observation was made:

‘You have enemies? Why, it is the story of every man who has done a great deed or created a new idea. It is the cloud which thunders around everything that shines. Fame must have enemies, as light must have gnats. Do not bother yourself about it; disdain. Keep your mind serene as you keep your life clear.’

That of course was written in a world sans the internet and social media, now such a call to integrity, endurance and resolve can be more sorely tested, for lurking in those caves are trolls, social misfits, individuals with an axe to grind. What a resource this technology is, it enables calumny, smears and character assassination to reach a global audience, almost instantly. Under such circumstances it takes a determined and courageous individual to tolerate personalized attacks on the internet, especially with the equipoise and grace suggested by Victor Hugo.

Allow us to introduce once such person, who despite being subjected to vicious and relentless insults and fabrications online has not been deflected from her work in challenging and exposing the atrocities, injustice and crimes of the Chinese regime.  Sheng Xue has been justly described as ‘one of Canada’s leading democratic-rights advocates’, she has dedicated herself to standing against the grim excesses of the Chinese authorities. With a remarkable selflessness she has waged a campaign demanding democracy and freedom within China and has been a tireless champion for human rights and political prisoners.

Such dissent and truth comes with a price, especially when opposing a totalitarian regime like China’s, where propaganda, deception and disinformation infest and censor virtually every aspect of published and broadcast media in that suppressed land. As it cannot call upon foreign Editors or publications to channel its toxic distortions the only medium it can turn to is the internet, on which it directs an army of poorly paid unthinking drones whose task is to generate confusion, spread lies and peddle the official line of the Chinese regime. Sheng Xue has, like others who dare to criticize China’s government, been targeted by such political trolls and exposed to a barrage of abusive falsehoods and crude smear campaigns. Clearly her campaigning and critique have struck an acutely sensitive nerve, and unable to counter the facts or prevent her dissenting voice China’s psychotic leadership has ordered its attack-dogs to bark loudly and aggressively in the hope that the noise will silence her.

Clearly Beijing’s bullies grossly underestimate the commitment of those dedicated towards the realization of a free and democratic China, whatever twisted allegations and lurid deceit it spreads will not halt the telling of truth nor, despite the emotional strains such nasty fallacy exerts, shall truly remarkable individuals cease from exposing China’s corrupt and violent driven authorities.

Our Letter To The Editor Of A Respected Tibetan News Source

Kind Attention
The Editor
http://www.phayul.com

Dear Sir,

As we noted in our previous email to you January 2015 we hold your publication in the highest regard and have for a considerable time respected the invaluable work you do for Tibet and its just cause.

However we remain troubled by  an editorial policy in which Tibetan territories are described as Chinese Provinces, usually without any mention of their authentic Tibetan names.

Take for example your latest report Feb 25 2016 Lone protestor arrested in Kham Tehor in which it states:

“A middle aged Tibetan man was arrested on Feb.14 for protesting alone in front of the government compound in Kham Tehor in Kardze County, Sichuan Province.” (Emphasis Added)

We previously advised you that a worrying aspect of this is that a considerable number of readers of your publication may not be deeply informed on Tibet and its geography, nor indeed its recent history and the invasion, occupation and subsequent renaming of  Tibet and its regions into Chinese provinces and so-called ‘autonomous regions’.

In addition the vast majority of Internet users may know little of Tibet beyond being aware of His Holiness the Dalai Lama or that Tibetans are Buddhist.

Such under informed readership invests considerable trust in the veracity and accuracy of your journal and will consume without critique as fact what your reports state. So in the context of the report in question they will be given to understand that there is a region of China called Sichuan and that Tibetans live there. Emphasized by your report’s inclusion of this phrase “Tibetan areas in the Qinghai and Sichuan”.

Is that a balanced and full account of the facts? Does it inform the reader that in truth the area is actually Kham region of occupied Tibet?

Are we hoping for too much that such a highly valued Tibetan publication would ensure that when reporting on events inside Tibet  that care is taken not to repeat China’s propaganda that renames Tibetan lands as Chinese provinces?

These thoughts and concerns are offered in a spirit of positive support.

Regards

Edinburgh’s Royal College Of Surgeons Honors China’s Body Parts Snatcher

Royal College Of Surgeons Edinburgh

Not since those ghastly 19th Century killers Burke and Hare has Scotland’s premier medical establishment been associated with grisly profits from corpses, not that these days Edinburgh’s Royal College of Surgeons (RCSE) is engaged in any criminal activity, or paying body-snatchers to secure ‘dissection material’. However this august institution is attracting concern as a consequence of one of its Fellows, Professor, Huang Jiefu, Deputy Chief of China’s Central Health Care Committee, responsible for the health of the core leaders of the Party and the state. This individual is praised by some within the wider medical establishment for aiding a claimed moderation of China’s medical atrocities regarding organ extractions. The Professor had during 2014 issued some ambitious and misleading claims that China would establish a voluntary organ donation system conforming to international standards.

According to Huang China would stop using organs from executed prisoners, an oblique assurance that no longer would countless numbers of political and death row prisoners face execution by having their organs ripped out of their bodies. Naturally the prospect of ending these harrowing atrocities was greatly welcomed by the international medical community. It was also greeted with an alarming degree of credulity, no doubt the standing of Huang Jiefu was seen as conveying authority. If he was issuing such statements it followed that China’s Regime was seriously committed to ending such harrowing violations.

If only matters were that transparently simple, however academics, medical colleagues lined up to praise Huang, citing him as a champion of human rights, others were less convinced. Concerns however were brushed away by repeating, as fact, the claims so carefully promoted by Huang Jiefu. Nor has the medical community taken account of the reality that his remit within the Chinese government does not extend to having authority over transplant reform, nor has it ever been applied in his public role!

A New York Times report (November 16, 2015) Huang Jiefu had previously announced (to international applause) that: “From Jan. 1, 2015, we will completely stop using death row prisoners’ organs as a transplant source. The only source will be organs from dead citizens who have voluntarily donated.”

However in the following twelve months the New York Times noted that under the new regime of supposedly not using organs from executed political or criminal prisoners, China’s organ supply showed no decrease!

..”organs from prisoners, including those on death row, can still be used for transplants in China, with the full backing of policy makers, according to Chinese news reports, as well as doctors and medical researchers in China and abroad. “They just reclassified prisoners as citizens,” said Huige Li, a Chinese-born doctor at the University of Mainz in Germany. Source: NYT November 16, 2015

Clearly the claims made by Huang that China now operates a voluntary organ donation system need to be viewed with considerable skepticism, http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/17/world/asia/china-bends-vow-using-prisoners-organs-for-transplants.html medical atrocities continue on an industrial sized scale, with the knowledge and authorization of the very regime of which Huang Jiefu is part.

Image:abcnews

Just what was the Royal College Of Surgeons Edinburgh thinking in honoring a man so worryingly linked with such medical atrocities? An individual who has seemingly conceded that “….as recently as November, 2012 that he continues to perform about two liver transplants every week – so that would be 100 organs a year, and using his own figures, 90 to 95 per cent of those would have come from executed prisoners.”  SOURCE: Falunda 2013/05/24/

We think it’s plain wrong that such a globally respected medical organization, with its commitment to ethical principles should choose to honor a man at the heart of a regime notorious for its record of abusing human rights. Thankfully in response to international criticism, in which we played an active and prominent role, the University of Sydney in 2015 decided not renew Huang’s fellowship. An action we hope will be followed by other academic and medical institutions and it’s hoped receive support from Scottish MSPs, all of whom we have contacted on this issue Appeal To Scottish MSPs

If you share our concern then please consider directly contacting the RCSE.

Welcome Comrade To Your New Home!

Image:archivenet

The Tibetan people’s nomadic culture is fast disappearing, courtesy of policies enforced by the Chinese regime, in which some 2 million Tibetan nomads are being removed from the grasslands and into housing settlements.

The official narrative would have you believe that this is a benign social program, aimed to provide Tibetans with the benefits of modern housing, after all who would enjoy a life under a tent during the bone-chilling winters of the Tibetan plateau?

Persuasive reasoning, right? What is not being mentioned though is that Tibetans have no choice in the matter, their right to maintain a way-of-life is being denied, by order of an oppressive foreign occupier.

Image: archivenet

There’s a dark motive operating behind the staged images of Tibetans ‘enjoying’ their modern homes, one that has at an objective an assault against Tibetan national and cultural identity.

In forcing Tibetans into what in essence are concentration camps China’s regime is engineering a dependent and population, formerly self-reliant Tibetans that lived a sustainable life on the grasslands are now reduced to a form of servility utterly reliant upon the Chinese authorities for fuel and food.

Meanwhile these drab concrete prisons, known officially as ‘socialist paradise villages’ concentrate Tibetan populations enabling China’s regime total control and freedom to pursue the degradation and eventual demise of Tibetan culture.

Organs Taken From Living People To Profit China’s Corrupted Regime

Like the issue of China’s program of forced sterilizations, another major human rights atrocity is being largely ignored by the international community. The corrupted and greed-driven Chinese regime is charged with administering, countenancing and sponsoring the forced extraction of organs from living people. Targeted groups include political and criminal prisoners, members of Faul Gong (a religious group) and maybe oppressed peoples such as Tibetans and Uyghurs.

A new movie ‘Hard To Believe’ looks set to expose in disturbing detail the horrific nature and extent of this crime against humanity, the trailer above indicates this will be a must see documentary.
