Apart from his incredible courage, self-sacrifice, determination and ceaseless support for Tibet’s national freedom Lobga Rangzen’s self-immolation outside the UN building in New York on July 2nd 2026 invites anyone who cares for the Tibetan people and their plight under Chinese tyranny, to review the ongoing policy of the exiled Tibetan Administration to seek so-called ‘meaningful autonomy’ under Chinese rule.

Is it a credible and workable solution to seek a negotiation with a psychotic regime that has, for years implemented a demographic and cultural genocide against Tibet and its people?

In a political world which has torn up human rights values and now defends war crimes as a ‘right to defense’, Tibetans find themselves increasingly isolated and ignored by governments, who have no ethical concerns about partnering with China.

In such circumstances, and with Tibet’s culture being erased, is it not a matter of extreme urgency that the exiled Tibetan community, under its leadership and governance unite; to terminate the ‘Middle Way Policy’? That with one voice, in a renewed sense of resistance and purpose, restore to the heart of Tibet’s cause, the stated objective as Tibetan independence?
